Road ConstructionCHAMPAIGN - With support from State Senator Scott Bennett, the Illinois Department of Transportation announced more than $19.2 million in state and local highway road improvements coming to the area in 2023.

“No one wishes to drive on roads that are uneven, or contain potholes or cracks,” said Bennett (D-Champaign). “Through IDOT’s investment to Illinois infrastructure, roads and bridges that show significant signs of wear will be repaired for the safety of all travelers.”

As part of IDOT’s latest Multi-Year Plan under Rebuild Illinois, the district Bennett represents will see an estimate of 59 infrastructure projects totaling more than $151.1 million over the next six years.

Some important projects the district will see in the coming years include:

  • Reconstruction of the bridge under Kirby Avenue west of Champaign along IL 57
  • Rehabilitation including widening existing pavements, intersection improvements and traffic signal modernization to I-74 interchange to ILL 10
  • Replacing and reconstructing the bridge under Perrysville Road in Danville along I-74

IDOT’s multi-year plan includes an investment of $34.6 billion that will go to highway reconstruction and preservation, bridge improvements, strategic expansion, system support such as engineering and land acquisition, and safety and system modernizations. Over six years, the funding will be dispersed to improve more than 2,500 miles of roads and nearly 10 million square feet of bridges.
