CHAMPAIGN – To kick off Parks and Recreation Month, State Senator Scott Bennett announced funding for investments in four local parks and forest preserves in Champaign County.
“Parks are a great resource that offers many benefits to everyone in our community,” said Bennett (D-Champaign). “OSLAD grants allow our park districts to stretch tax dollars to improve our parks to better serve residents.”
Open Space Land Acquisition and Development program grants are administered by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources and support local park projects. When combined with local matching funds, the latest OSLAD grants provide more than $56 million in local park development projects and land acquisitions statewide.
Projects receiving funds in the area Bennett represents include:
- Champaign County Forest Preserve District, Dark Sky Trail and amenities - $294,000
- Village of Fisher, Fisher Village park redevelopment - $234,900
- Village of Rantoul, Heritage Lake redevelopment Phase 1 - $400,000
- Tolono Park District, West Side Park revitalization - $400,000
“The parks in in the 52nd District are beautiful and accessible, and I hope these grants can help keep them that way,” said Bennett.
